Motto: Stepping into a brighter future
Learn More About UsEmpowering the youth of Koru and beyond with practical skills for employment and self-reliance.
Archbishop Okoth Vocational Training Centre, formerly known as Koru Youth Polytechnic (1985–1999), was re-established in May 2008 under the leadership of Mrs. Mary Stewart, appointed by His Grace the Rev. Zaccheus Okoth, Archbishop of Kisumu. With generous funding from the Isle of Man, the Centre was revitalized and later rebranded in 2016 by TVETA as Archbishop Okoth Vocational Training Centre due to its exceptional staff, examination success, and commitment to excellence.
Located in Koru trading center, approximately 78 km northeast of Kisumu City and 28 km off the Kisumu–Nairobi highway at an elevation of 1000m above sea level, our centre serves a community where 67% of the population are youth, with 87% of them unskilled or semi-illiterate. Additionally, 31% of the youth population are adolescent girls or young women (aged 15–21), 85% of whom are unemployed, and 40% of girls aged 13–21 are either pregnant or already mothers. These challenges underscore the urgent need for accessible vocational training.
Our centre cultivates a passion for learning and respect for others, fostering a diverse and inclusive community. Through an active learning environment, we develop creative and critical thinkers who are prepared for meaningful, lifelong success, living by our motto: "Stepping into a brighter future."
To empower the youth with appropriate and adequate knowledge and attitude to realize their full potential, for individual and national development.
